DriveTribe records car journeys and turns them into statistics and a driving score. This policy describes exactly what the app does with data. It is written to be checked against the software, not to be broad enough to cover anything.
The app records your location continuously while a drive is in progress, including in the background, because starting and stopping recording by itself is the point of the product. Location is written to a database on your device and processed there.
If you turn on backup, a summary of each drive is uploaded to our server: distance, duration, average and maximum speed, elevation, the driving score, and a route line with the first and last 300 metres removed. That trim is applied before the data leaves the device and is not optional — it exists so a shared or backed-up route cannot show where you live or work.
The full, untrimmed route and the per-second sample data are never uploaded, never included in a share card, and never attached to a crash report.
The app reads the accelerometer and gyroscope to tell driving from walking and to measure braking and cornering smoothness. This is summarised on the device into short manoeuvre events. Raw sensor data is never transmitted and never stored beyond the drive being processed.
An account is optional. If you create one we store your email address, a nickname and country if you set them, an avatar if you upload one, and any referral codes you create or redeem. We use your email only to send sign-in codes and, if necessary, service notices. We do not send marketing email.
The app uses PostHog for product analytics and Sentry for crash reporting. Analytics events record which screens are opened and which features are used. No location data is ever included in an analytics or crash event. Crash reports are configured with personally identifying information disabled.
Analytics can be turned off in Settings › Privacy. Neither service is used for advertising, and no data is shared with data brokers or joined with data from other companies' apps.
Data on your device stays until you delete it or remove the app. A deleted account is marked deleted immediately, becomes invisible to every lookup, and is purged within 30 days.
DriveTribe is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
